LINCOLNTON, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The rockhounds have descended on Graves
Mountain, a mecca for mineral hunters.

There’s a free event there twice a year – the last weekend in April and the
first weekend in October – at the unique geological formation.

The treasures attract visitors from as far away as China and Hawaii.

On Friday, cars lined the road leading into the site, a former mine for
rutile, a substance used in polishing diamonds.

People are coming from near and far to look for gems in Lincoln County.

The “spring dig” is happening over at Graves Mountain and these rocks are
rare and expensive.
