I know a couple places in Idaho with big golden Tempskya root wads (for lack of a better term). Either they're too heavy (and buried pretty good) or almost no one recognizes them. They're a good ways from a road but not a punishing hike in or out. I took a few small pieces, I just wanted a couple cross sections. Come to think of it there weren't many small pieces showing, old timer rockhounds probably got most of them.

In the mid 1960s I was wandering around the Black Hills trying to finish my MS field work. There were still large (basketball size) hunks of cycads scattered around. Other collectors were randoming? digging and finding cycads. I started returning in the 1990s and not even a small (pingpong ball) hunk did I see. In the 60s the numerous rock shops had specimens for sale. Have not seen a specimens in a shop for decades
