In the mid 1960s I was wandering around the Black Hills trying to finish my MS field work. There were still large (basketball size) hunks of cycads scattered around. Other collectors were randoming? digging and finding cycads. I started returning in the 1990s and not even a small (pingpong ball) hunk did I see. In the 60s the numerous rock shops had specimens for sale. Have not seen a specimens in a shop for decades
