You are wrong about that, and should consider doing some study before
mouthin...  I mean, before replying here so dismissively.

Electronic signals travel a lot faster than ground motion.  Here's one
easily found website about this amazing new technology:

Potentially it can warn far enough ahead to stop trains and elevators,
possibly get cars off bridges, etc, depending on circumstances.  If I
still lived in the LA area, I would love to at least have the chance to
hear a distinctive (I hope) audible tone on my phone (possibly
overriding Do Not Disturb at night) saying, "brace for impact!"
