[Rockhounds] New list of official mineral symbols (abbreviations)

My apology, my error, re. my last post about this!
I've just realized that the IMA-approved list DOES keep the traditional, two-letter abbreviations for the most common minerals--like ab, an, or, fo, fa.
I was sure that I'd seen an earlier version of a proposed list that offered new abbreviations to replace those common ones--maybe I did, and maybe I'm mis-remembering. But, my fault for not looking at the new list more carefully.
(Though I'm still sort of dubious about the need for abbreviations, up to 5 characters (not counting some of the chemical element suffixes!) for all those 5744 different minerals!).
Cheers again, and happy Thanksgiving weekend still,
Pete

The splitters are not happy, and now we need to learn abbreviations, doubling the number of minerals.
