[Rockhounds] An Unusual Type of "Lava" - What Do You Think?

I'm not sure that I saw or received the original post (?), but I saw John's!
It doesn't look like slag.  I would think it was some kind of calcium carbonate - mineral spring deposit.  Perhaps, Scott, you can test it with acid (or vinegar) to see if it fizzes?
