[Rockhounds] : Nebraska teacher finds largest diamond of 2019 in Arkansas’ Crater of Diamonds State Park

I've been to Crater of Diamonds several times now, never found anything (don't go to that mud pit DURING a rainstorm). There are some kimberlite outcrops on the very edges of the park, which are pretty interesting.

I actually asked a related question to the park rangers when I was there. I asked about very small diamonds and what my chances of finding one if I took 5-gallons of material and used a hand lens and microscope to go through everything. I was told there wasn't much of a chance you'd find one and that the diamonds found there are usually at least eye visible. I have no idea if this is true, but my guess is that micro diamonds do exist there but are extremely hard to detect from the other material at that size. There is a lot of sand sized quartz and other material there, so it could be a nightmare trying to sort it all out to find a small diamond.

Why don't you lamp it, Kreigh?
Many diamonds fluoresce in UV.

I still have around 20 pounds of pre-sorted gravel to go through from our stop down there last year. Maybe...maybe...a teensy tiny diamond is waiting for me!

A Nebraska teacher had a gem of a time at Arkansas’ Crater of Diamonds State Park, where he found a 2.12-carat brown diamond, according to a press release issued by the park on Monday.

The diamond is the largest found in the park in 2019.
