They are also to be seen where I81 climbs up the escarpment to Hazelton, PA, some times making it across the roadway...larger than a sedan

As a youngest I saw it happen in my backyard.  The snowballs were much small tennis ball to baseball size.

We lived about a mile from Lake Michigan near Muskegon, MI.
