I saw a presentation of a geology prof. some months ago.
That particular earthquake appears to have been caused by the weight of the Apennine mountain range causing "collapses" of the underlying strata.
That needn't be directly connected to the Campi Flegrei volcano, or does it?
There 's a lot of stuff happening in the region, as well in the Mediterranean sea as in the Aegean region and even to the far east of that. (Turkey, Iran... ) As far as I'm concerned: I wouldn't go live in Naples even if someone offered me a luxurious palazzo there. Not because of the Campi Flegrei volcano but rather because of the traitorous Vesuvius.
How does one evacuate a city of 2.000.000 + inhabitants on short notice? I see an epic traffic pile-up and a few hundred thousand "walking dead".

And I remember what happened to the Italian earthquake scientists who were blamed for the damage of an earthquake the politicians accused them of not calling correctly.
