It sounds like an expression in German. Maybe, slightly garbled in a phonetic spelling? Aha, I looked it up in a German dictionary, Samt = velvet! Velvet goethite. And that's what Mindat says: "A fuzzy variety of goethite with a velvety luster!"Pete

I picked up a specimen at an estate sale from an old collector (92 when he
died) that was probably collected in the late 50's or early 60's that was
labeled

"Quartz with Sammette Blend Goethite X'ls Ohio Mine"

Google can't tell me what 'Sammette Blend' is. I am guessing it is a
miner's term for some type of crystal formation. Does anyone know?

Kreigh

P.S., I do know the Ohio Mine is Ohio Mines (Imperial Mine; Webster Mine),
Imperial Heights, Baraga Co., Michigan
