And then there's the iron that came from Lake Champlain around the time of the revolution... puddling furnaces... I have several pounds of the blue glass slag from the furnace..

The story I always heard was that the iron used for the chain across the
Hudson came from a mine in Ringwood, NJ. There are links from that chain at
Ringwood Manor in New Jersey (and also at West Point (USMA).
