[Rockhounds] How ending mining would change the world

George R. R. Martin is a scifi and fantasy author, definitely one of my
favorite authors of all time, but he did not write The Expanse.  The Expanse
book series was written by "James S. A. Corey", pen name of Daniel Abraham
and Ty Franck writing jointly.  George R. R. Martin wrote the books on which
The Game of Thrones TV series was based.  They've been connected in the news
lately because there was apparently a bet going as to who would finish
writing their series first.  "James S. A. Corey" won the bet.  Considering
we're talking about thousands of pages of great fiction having been written
in both cases, I salute all 3 authors.

So as not to be too off-topic, science fiction does fairly often explore how
geology (and rocks) can influence society, thus I'm not surprised that the
Rockhounds group has many scifi readers.  "2312" is a Kim Stanley Robinson
novel that envisions in rich detail how humans might live on planets and
moons from Mercury to Titan, changing their worlds and being themselves
changed by the worlds they inhabit.  I highly recommend it to Rockhounds who
read scifi or enjoyed The Expanse.

Indeed!

That is because we are used to "short burns" space crafts. Limited fuel =
limited speed.
If you could make an engine that delivers thrust for unlimited periods of
time, you could fly to the moon in 20 minutes and to Mars in less than a
week or so.

They are indeed done... The saga continues but after 30 years.... They leap
forward skipping a generation. Jeff Bezos quit.
