[Rockhounds] What do seek in on-line museum collections?

Thanks for your reply and input. It’s true that images of fossils are widespread but very general. I can survey teachers but my focus with the Rockhound list is more of a generic hobbyist inquiry.
As to the internet being helpful for me as a collector? Oh, no, no no! There is no ‘mindat’ for fossils. Digital images are mostly the same species or even the same images used ad nauseum. Unfortunately, eBay is the most likely source when I do a search.
One example - when I seek out to identify my unidentified Green River Formation tree leaves, the results are disappointing. Common leaf ID, yes. Otherwise it’s no joy. I have located and downloaded some scanned PDFs of USNM research published 50 to 100 years ago.
Looking for fossil images to aid in identification is still lousy for most formations and specific localities. The most comprehensive I’ve encountered are Cincinnatian (upper Ordovician ) fossils.
My goal with the Falls site is to have a large variety of Silurian and Devonian faunas available. Any other thoughts from the Rockhound List would be appreciated.
Regards,
Alan

What I think some people, including teachers and student, are
looking for are Creative Commons licensed 3D digital models
of real fossils that they can print on 3D printers. Also,
include color images of the fossils so the more tech savvy can
add colors to their printed models.
Images of fossils are now everywhere on the Internet and no longer
special except for researchers.
Just some thoughts.
