[Rockhounds] What do seek in on-line museum collections?

Alan,
I volunteer at the Grand Rapids Public Museum as a Science Curator; my
paid boss is a paleontologist, and I help him with the rock and mineral
collection. They use the free and open source Collective Access software
from http://www.whirl-i-gig.com/ to catalog and publish their collection to
the internet. The Providence Cataloguing Software is browser based, and
when you save a record the Pawtucket2 Web Publishing Software immediately
makes it available on your website. Obviously your catalog will have more
details than your website, but you can customize what to display. If you
are not familiar with the software you should at least check it out since
it was developed for museums.
