[Rockhounds] Iridium in undersea crater confirms asteroid wiped out the dinosaurs

Been there, seen it, was impressed.
Just a small rock made such a big dent in my planet.
I got a tiny piece of that one from my friend with NASA, Dr. Everett Gibson.
He's an avid meteorite collector. It's unfathomable that a piece of
nickel-iron measuring about 50 meters in diameter can instantly vaporize
and rain down as minuscule droplets upon impact....
The way that the earth recycle continents is also mindboggling.

Cheers
Axel

I graduated in '72 with a degree in geological engineering. If I remember
correctly (THAT is a fun issue after a half century!) the idea of
continental drift was barely mentioned. Did you know that as late as the
1950's people were still debating the cause of the big crater in NE
Arizona...you know...METEOR crater?

I have found geology texts from the 1970s that still did not accept plate
tectonics! People are stubborn.
