Paul et al,

What about the other side of the coin? Just as all the meetings to present research have all been cancelled, so have many of the opportunities for many of these kids to DO research. I’ve been trying to figure out what kind of geological / mineralogical research my son (Junior geology major) can do from the comfort and safety of our house. We are blessed to have access to a portable XRF and oodles of rocks and UV lights, as well as some big hammers, but none of these are really useful for real scientific research that could be presented at some future webinar (!). We are trying to wrangle a petrographic microscope from his old high school as he has some thin sections that have never been examined and I presume more could be made (someone might still be working?). I’m sure he would be much happier if he had been quarantined with an EDS/Microprobe, but alas, no.

Any thoughts on research from home?

Doug
