Some are. Dolphins, some birds, octopi, pass the mirror test.
They are sentient beings.

Octopus, apes, porpoises and crows are all smart ANIMALS, Sentient they are not.

Axel obviously you have not been to engineering school. Every major bridge, tunnel or major building has an expected loss of life calculated, reduced to monetary value and added into the predicted cost of the project. The Mont Blanc Tunnel in Europe cost 23 lives during construction. I'm not talking about the fire that happened after it was open. If you look at any major project you will find the same. So you have been living in a protected cocoon if you did not know this.

Twenty-three men lost their lives during the forty-four months of work:

“When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle.”
