[Rockhounds] Fossiliferous concretion formation over week-month timescales

I was taught that concretion formation was due to interaction between chemicals produced in the decay of organisms and the carbonate chemistry around it, and that this took place quite quickly. Not sure they were saying days or weeks, but not geological time scales. This was the accepted understanding in the late 1960’s among my paleo professors. The old is new again!
