[Rockhounds] BASIC geo-chem question...

Oh my yes... volcanic eruptions! Over the years the volcanoes in Iceland
have produced clouds of HF-rich vapors that have done Bad Things to folks
downwind. In Iceland they have trenches dug in the hillsides to channel
gases downslope. In the past massive flocks of sheep would die during
eruptions (not to mention the shepherds!). When the HF hit Europe it
caused massive casualties. Iceland... where the weather, volcanic gasses,
lava... all sorts of things can do you in!

I was going to say that HF does not occur naturally in nature, but this
article:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrofluoric_acid
says I am wrong about that.

It says:
Hydrofluoric acid can be found in nature, having been released in a volcanic
eruption.
