When people bitch and moan about nuclear plants I would always point out that coal plants that burned Wyoming (and other western) coal were release a LOT more nuclides into the air than nuclear power plants. I can remember going out on field trips from SD Tech back in the early 70's seeing uranium salts intimately associated with coal seams. Burn the coal and the nasty stuff goes right out the stack...even after scrubbing out most of the particulates. Nuclear plants have really strict emission guidelines.
