Not sure why we are referencing Philip Platt, when we can go straight to the leading expert in this field, Jon Larsen, and get his views on the difficulty of finding micrometeorites:

The most discouraging part of this hobby is: how many, different types of tiny micro-spheres (that are commonly found on rooftops) are NOT micrometeorites.

But like Jon Larsen said, once he found his first (confirmed) micrometeorite, he now knew what they looked like. And he started finding them everywhere!Bob V.
