[Rockhounds] Stylolites

These patterns remind me a lot of "picture jasper".  If picture jasper really is a sort of jasper, then it is SiO2, and one of the articles did mention sandstone exhibiting stylolites.  I once picked up a rough piece of picture jasper, and it felt like sandstone.  Any thoughts on this?
I read part of the long review article.  To me, one of the most interesting things mentioned was that fossils can be found bisected by a stylolite path, and sometimes, the fossil has been dissolved and transported away from one side only.
