So I need to grind down some quartz, basically I have some 1.5 inch chunks of amethyst that are not flat enough on the back for what I need. Tried the flat lap but we only have a faceting one and the wheels are too delicate and expensive to want to slam through quartz with. So I am using my genie and it works fine since I don't need perfect flatness, just kind of flat, so I just need to knock down high places to get it to about 1/8 inch of flat, but I want to do a lot of these so I'd like to get a 'galaxy' style hard harsh diamond wheel to put on in place of the genie 80 grit so I can slam through a lot of quartz quickly. These stones are just going to be glued down later so the grind being very course is just fine. I would like to find maybe a 40 grit or 60 grit wheel I can put on my genie, not sure if I should get that from Diamond Pacific or some third party vendor. Suggestions? Some years ago, last I was dealing with diamond pacific wheels, the quality seemed to have dropped a lot and some of the direct from China vendors were coming up with ok product at a much lower price, not sure if that is still the case. Worst case scenario, I could also just get a new 80 grit, my current one is sort of midlife right now. But I'd really rather get as course a grit as feasible since removing quartz material quickly is the main goal for this project which will probably be an ongoing business venture.-Eva
