During my 1960s college days in western Kansas we spent many hours searching for shark teeth on anthills built on Cretaceous rocks. Later in life I spent my professional career collecting small mammal teeth, often finding localities by checking ant hills. At some Wyoming localities geologists search ant hills for garnets and peridot trying to locate possible sources for diamonds. Take a peek sometime, with a scope, at ant mandibles.
