Most of the Hawaiian archipelago has no interesting minerals whatsoever...
Kitty gave me calcite specimen
(http://fluo.mineralogie.be/Calcite.html#HawaiiENG) so I have one of the 135
mineral species that occur on the islands.
No, Kreigh sent me a peculiar sulfur crystal, so there are actually TWO
species in my collection.
The calcite forms in cavities like caves and lava tubes.
I know of ONE phonolite quarry, way up on Mauna Kea. (not mentioned on
MinDat)
Then there's  the peridote quarry on O'ahu and 5 other quarries, all on the
O'ahu island.

I type dyslexically. Lol. And we have been to the beach at Diamond Head, the
Honolulu mineral club told us about it. They said it wasn't all that
impressive, and they were right. There also was peridot in decent quantity
in a quarry east of town that no longer exists. They had led trips there up
into the 80s I believe.
