Hi all.
I obtained an LED long wave UV flashlight a week or so ago, and it's quite a bright source. Many of my specimens I expected to react with fluorescence did so, and some I didn't expect to did interestingly.
I have several Rhodocrosite specimens from Africa, and a few from Colorado. The African specimens glowed a bright scarlet under the LW UV light. The Colorado specimens acted as I expected, null results.
Interesting. I admit I have not tried it with all the specimens in boxes and flats out in the shop. But the ones out on display and otherwise laying about the house, big fun. Calcite from Ruck's Pit in FL fluoresced a little bit, but phosphoresced more brightly than it did fluoresce.
Big fun, though.
