Steve Garza, a well-known mineral collector from Massachusetts and Indiana who was active on Mindat chat rooms and led collecting trips, suffered a debilitating illness last year. He is recovering, but will not likely be doing field work again.
His wife is organizing and preparing specimens for sale from the vast mineral collection, estimated at over a million specimens. It's an extremely slow process. Steve's collection is worldwide, but especially rich in New England localities, including many that are closed. He also has a lot of Indiana and Kentucky locations. Fluorescent minerals are abundant. Specimens vary from micros to monsters too large for easy shipping, but most are in the miniature to cabinet-size range. He began collecting in the late 60s to early 1970s, with specimens dating decades earlier based on labels.
David Horn and I are working with Dee to facilitate their sale. We are using two means: eBay and requests. If you have a general interest, the eBay approach might work best: http://www.ebay.com/usr/crystalman!?_trksid=p2047675.l2559. If you have interests by mineral species or location, contact me directly and we will look for them as we go through the many shelves and boxes. (Remember, don't hit reply to this post - use my email address.)
