Hi Pete, To start with, you need to have an idea of just how much would you
use a UV lamp. More minerals fluoresce under Short Wave and the prices range
from $49 to $500.

I have been interested in fluorescent minerals for some time. I first
purchased a small short-wave lamp. If you buy a lesser UV lamp, eventually
you will tend to purchase the next best, then the next best, then the "The
Way to Cool" is a combination Long wave-short wave at about $150. I finally
purchased a Super Bright II Short wave and a Super Bright II Long wave.
Which I have had for a least 10 years. The Super Bright is about $500. Upon
searching the internet I found the Super Bright III Short Wave sells for
$489.

This is what I found on the Super Bright website-www.UVsystems.com

Super Bright 3 UV light with SW filter and SW lamp. Peak output at 253.7 nm.
Complete with 240V to 100V AC Adaptor. This is one of the most powerful
hand-held AC and DC SW lights made. It is very popular with field
collectors because bright fluorescent specimens have been spotted over 50
feet away in the dark with this UV light and optional B2 battery pack. It's
unique ergonomic handle and light weight makes it easy to use. The housing
is made from strong aluminum not plastic. And its free AC adaptor can be
used anywhere in the world since it operates on 100V to 240V at 50 or 60 Hz.

One must remember it is only the Short-Wave Lamp. They now sell a mid-range
and long range too.

If you have the time, you may wish to contact Sterling Hill Mine in
Ogdensburg, NJ or The Franklin Mineral Museum and Earl Verbeek in Franklin,
NJ. There is a Fluorescent Mineral Group on Face Book. Mark Cole would
certainly be a good source for information.

Good luck hunting!
Cheers,
Carolyn Reynard

Any comments about the best UV flashlight for mineral use, value for money?

Thanks,
