This stuff could be jewelers' lacquer. Soak it in lacquer thinner, then rinse w/ acetone. I purchased 4 pink sapphires years ago, and wondered how they acquired their shine. After lac thinner and acetone, they did not look so shiney, or so filled. Ed Wagner--------------------------------------------

Don't think so. I put several in varsol
and nothing happened. I put a few
in muriatic acid before leaving for
Chicago, so will be curious if that
makes a difference when I get home
Monday.

OI can scratch it with a knife, but that is all.
